Fixed braces for children

Fixed braces for children help create a healthy, long-lasting smile. With modern technology and a personalised treatment plan, your child can receive targeted treatment to straighten teeth and correct any malocclusion.

Why choose fixed braces for children?

Fixed braces for children are an effective method of completing a successful course of orthodontic treatment. Orthodontists recommend fixed braces for severe orthodontic issues, like deep overbites or underbites. Other orthodontic devices like Invisalign may not correct these problems as easily in very complex cases.

Modern fixed braces are more comfortable than before as the brackets are lower profile and therefore cause less ulceration of the lips and cheeks.

Benefits of fixed braces for children

Cost is a common concern, especially if you are on a tight budget. This shouldn’t be an issue with children’s fixed braces because they are the least expensive orthodontic device. The results are long-lasting and significant.

Types of fixed braces for children

Traditional metal fixed braces

Fixed braces for children have been available for decades and have given outstanding results to many patients. The traditional metal braces have metal brackets fixed to the front of the teeth with dental adhesive. A wire is then inserted into the brackets and held in place with elastics. The wires gradually guide the teeth into alignment. Unlike brackets available in the past, metal brackets are smaller, reducing their visibility.

Iconix fixed brace

Iconix braces have brackets that are made from gold and therefore look ore subtle in the mouth and smile. Iconix braces have brackets that are very small and low profile in order to avoid gum or lip irritation

Clear ceramic fixed braces

Clear ceramic braces are an alternative to traditional metal braces as they are less noticeable. Although the wire passed through the brackets is still silver, ceramic braces are hardly noticeable.

Clear ceramic braces also have rounder edges than their metal counterparts, causing less irritation to the soft tissues in the mouth. While ceramic braces may be a preferred option for many people, the brackets are more fragile than metal braces.

The orthodontist will advise you on the most suitable option for your child based on multiple factors.
